RECAP
Spoiler For: The Golden Globes... so nothing that matters.
Couple of weeks ago I made my predictions for the 2021 Golden Globe awards and last night the long wait was over to see how many I got right and how many I got wrong.
The night kicked off with a monologue from our hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who straddled two coasts to deliver a safe set of jokes that still brought the laughs. It wasn't the massacre that we got from Ricky Gervais last year, but to be honest after a year like last year, maybe it's okay to keep it soft. Everyone, especially the essential workers in the audience, is battle-worn and wants to laugh about things that just. don't. matter.
Tina and Amy did point out the shocking news a lot of us learned recently but were not surprised by, that the Hollywood Foreign Press, in all 90 of its members, lacks a single black person. Hopefully, this changes in the future but unfortunately, won't be enough to keep snubs like leaving out I May Destroy You happening again. But hey, that's the business. What is a Golden Globe anyways? Because all I see is a potential murder weapon in a game of Celebrity Clue.
Besides having hosts 3 hours away from each other, the night was different this year because all the nominees had to do what most Americans have done this year, and sit through a Zoom meeting where you probably aren't even gonna have a chance to speak and you're busy judging everyone's interior decorating skills. Shout out to the people obviously sitting in hotels because they knew better!
So to the real winner of the night. Me! How did I do?

Not too shabby. I knew The Crown and Schitt's Creek would clean up but I was surprised by the Queen's Gambit. Call it the Queen's Gambit Gambit! Of course, I am devastated by Shira Haas and Unorthodox not winning big. The show had a profound impact on me last year in the same way I May Destroy You did, and maybe in a way I felt like a win for it, was a win for both, at least in my mind.
Now, if you excuse me I need to find a way to watch Ted Lasso without giving Apple anymore of my money.
